12th August 2025 Daily Video Game Gossip

In our opinion, it's been a bit of a slow news day, but these stories are the ones that caught our attention.

Our Thoughts

Another Blizzard Dept. Unionizes

We know that we're in the minority with our belief that unions aren't the answer to the video game industries woes, but it's virtually impossible to have a conversation with anyone who works in the industry who isn't far left leaning. Obviously, freedom of association is an important hallmark of our interpretation of First Amendment freedoms. Regardless of our personal ideologies, the actual state of the industry reflects a willingness of workers to unionize. We'll have to see if this move does anything to stop executives from trying to cut costs by utilizing AI tools to generate story content for games.

Mass Effect 5 News

Any Mass Effect news is good news. Technically this is just another article mining Matty's interview with Mark Darrah from the 9th. Still, is it interesting commentary regarding Veilguard. While the fourth entry in the Dragon Age franchise is not a favorite entry of ours, we don't think it was a terrible game by any stretch. So it'll be interesting to see which lessons BioWare and EA each learned from the experience.

Quinten Tarantino's Star Trek

Rumors about Tarantino's Star Trek script have been floating around for a couple of years now. Variety even reported on it, and the reasons why the movie was never made. We would love to see any sci-fi film by Tarantino, but a Star Trek film by him would be quite exciting.

Itch's Unintended Consequences

Sadly, something like this was bound to happen. Collateral damage is inevitable when people are forced to make big changes in a relatively quickly. We're hoping stories like this help get the word out for indie devs just trying to buy a cup of coffee with their work.

Dystopia?

While not directly video game related, AI has been casting a shadow over everything we do quite heavily for the last 8-10 months. We believe most of the talk is alarmist, but also that these conversations need to be had, and as such we remain optimistic that a Roddenberry future is not only possible, but eventually inevitable.

Helldivers 2 on Xbox

So the rumor is that there will be Halo tie-ins with Helldivers 2. We still have two more weeks until the game is officially launched on Microsoft's platform so there are likely to be more articles in the coming days talking about this game. It is almost all but certain that a new Halo remaster will be released for the PS5 in the next year or two, so it's possible that whatever licensing agreement Microsoft has worked out with Arrowhead (or Playstation Studios) will result in possible Halo content for the PS5 version of the game as well.
