20th August 2025 Daily Video Game Gossip

We're late getting this up. We know these articles are all from yesterday, which was Gamescom's Opening Night Live. Geoff Keighley consummated E3's unofficial replacement with his inaugural parade of advertisements and world premieres.

Our Thoughts

All the relevant announcements.

Everything new and noteworthy from Opening Night Live is contained in this article.

New WoW Expansion

Interesting to see this debuted on Opening Night Live. There was no Blizzcon last year, and now that Microsoft owns Activision-Blizzard-King, it seems like they're taking a different approach to marketing. They could have very easily just waited until Blizzcon in a couple of weeks from now.

Outer Worlds 2 Companions

We really liked the first game and we played through it multiple times to get different endings... Microsoft is marketing this game as if it is going to be the next blockbuster AAA title. But it will most likely still be a niche title that probably scores 75-80 on Open and Meta Critics. The fact that the game has no romance means they're missing out on a potentially large audience that has been burnt by BioWare.

Black Myth Sequel

Originally this was rumored to be a DLC to Wukong, but we've since learned that Zhong Kui is a sequel. We still haven't played Wukong, but it comes out on the Xbox tomorrow, so we're looking forward to checking it out sooner rather than later.

Bloodlines 2

The headline is a bit misleading. As far as we're aware, the sequel to Troika's original Vampire the Masquerade game has only been in developer since right before Paradox purchased White Wolf.

Blops 7

This is going to be an off year for COD... The only saving grace is that it's on GamePass. Honestly though, Blops 6 was our return to the franchise specifically because it was day one on GamePass.

“First-Person Soulslike”

We joked while watching the trailer that Valor Mortis was exactly what the marketing material is calling it, but didn't realize they would actually use the term as an official descriptior.

BioShock 4 Has Ron

A friend of ours called it as soon as Ron Fergusson's departure from Blizzard; that Fergusson would probably go to T2 and clean up Cloud Chamber because they're in a bit of development hell right now.

Another “Indie” Darling

While technically not an “indie” studio, Giant Squid are a smaller team focused on making smaller games. This next release looks to be the dream of “Triple-I” realized.

When will the Winds of Winter be felt?

We can't blame her for asking this question, for filming it, or for posting it online and disabling comments. Maybe it wasn't the most tactful way of asking that question, but inquiring minds do want to know.
